WP 5 : Prioritizing and characterizing the best strategies for each SEA country
Description of works
All data gathered in the earlier WPs (WP2 and WP4) will be compiled and evaluated using a well-defined set of criteria to prioritize interventions with regard to their potential impact on micronutrient status. These criteria
will be used to assess each intervention’s feasibility, potential coverage of high risk women and young children, predicted cost-benefits and potential risks.
As the predicted impact of different interventions might vary across SEA countries (e.g. because of different underlying patterns of micronutrient deficiencies or different political, administrative and social structures), the preliminary lists of priority interventions will be country-specific. However, general characteristics that apply across several SEA countries will be highlighted, to facilitate South-South collaboration on the implementation of interventions.
Objectives
1. Evaluate all potential interventions based on outcomes from WP2 and WP4, to be used to improve micronutrient status in women and young children for each SEA country.
2. Formulate a preliminary priority list of the most urgently needed interventions for each country with their characteristics (feasibility, limits, risks,...) and select efficient interventions that are the most common to all countries and consequently useful at regional and even international levels. This list will be discussed at the Mid-Term workshop.
3. Reach a consensus about the preliminary priority list of interventions and their characteristics with all partners and the Advisory Board.
Tasks
5.1 : Analyze outcomes of WP2 and WP4, and draw a preliminary priority list
5.2 : Prepare and conduct a Mid-Term Workshop
"SMILING for Action", Final dissemination event, 3rd April, Phnom-Penh, Cambodia
The final dissemination event will be organized Thursday 3rd of April 2014, at Sofitel Phnom-Penh, Cambodia. The five national roadmaps of priority interventions to prevent micronutrient deficiencies during the project will be presented to a large audience of stakeholders, policymakers, representatives of International organizations involved in nutrition policies implementation.
Publication on the project in "Food and Nutrition Bulletin"
The SMILING project was the topic of a publication in Food and Nutrition Bulletin , vol. 34, no. 2 (sup.), "The SMILING project: A North–South–South collaborative action to prevent micronutrient deficiencies in women and young children in Southeast Asia" Berger J. et al
SMILING outcomes at the Micronutrient Forum Conference
Two presentations at the Micronutrient Forum Global Conference (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, June 2014) will be about specically SMILING. Many researchers from the project will present outcomes related to the project.
