WP 6 : Selecting the best strategies in SEA countries – Stakeholders analysis
Description of work
It is now well recognised that carrying out a detailed, accurate stakeholder analysis is a critical component in efforts to mount successful and sustainable intervention programmes. Such analysis will identify potential synergies and obstacles from different stakeholder group perspectives to identify the opportunities and potential threats of alternative intervention actions and mechanisms to gain stakeholder interest/support.
In this WP, a state-of-the-art, novel technique - Multi-Criteria Mapping (MCM) will be used to reach consensus among stakeholders about a set of priority actions through which to mount a timely and effective response to the spread micronutrient deficiencies among vulnerable groups in SEA (i.e., children under 2 years old and Women of Reproductive age). Two representatives from each of the five SEA countries (Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam) will interview representatives from a broad range of stakeholder groups in their country who have an interest or active involvement in nutrition actions.
A key feature of the multi-criteria mapping technique is that interviewees (i.e., stakeholders) select and prioritise from a predefined list of intervention options those they consider important, and the criteria against which they will evaluate them.
The technique identifies from each stakeholder’s point of view the weighting, ranking and importance of alternative policy/intervention options in each country. By comparative analyses of the quantitative and qualitative data collected, the most acceptable policy options of key stakeholder groups are identified.
Objectives
1. Prioritize interventions in each SEA country from a broad range of viewpoints to improve at scale the micronutrient status of Women of Reproductive Age and young children .
2. Develop capacity in SEA to use the Multi-Criteria Mapping technique .
Tasks
- Identificationof stakeholder groups for interviews
- Identify and contact individual representatives of different stakeholder groups (interviewees) in each country
- Training of SEA beneficiaries in use of MCM Mapper software
- Data collection
- Data analysis using MCM Analyst
- Produce stakeholder analysis report
"SMILING for Action", Final dissemination event, 3rd April, Phnom-Penh, Cambodia
The final dissemination event will be organized Thursday 3rd of April 2014, at Sofitel Phnom-Penh, Cambodia. The five national roadmaps of priority interventions to prevent micronutrient deficiencies during the project will be presented to a large audience of stakeholders, policymakers, representatives of International organizations involved in nutrition policies implementation.
Publication on the project in "Food and Nutrition Bulletin"
The SMILING project was the topic of a publication in Food and Nutrition Bulletin , vol. 34, no. 2 (sup.), "The SMILING project: A North–South–South collaborative action to prevent micronutrient deficiencies in women and young children in Southeast Asia" Berger J. et al
SMILING outcomes at the Micronutrient Forum Conference
Two presentations at the Micronutrient Forum Global Conference (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, June 2014) will be about specically SMILING. Many researchers from the project will present outcomes related to the project.
